Breast Assessment
What to expect?
Breast screening in England is carried out in accordance with the Quality Assurance Guidelines (NHSBSP, 2018). Whilst the primary objectives of screening are to maximise the number of cancers and number of small invasive cancers detected, the related quality standards are to minimise the number of screened women referred for further tests and similarly minimise the number of unnecessary benign biopsies. However, in certain instances such guidelines have failed to be followed and inevitably errors have occurred.
The team will develop, pilot and implement a national scenario-based interactive web-based educational scheme to monitor performance in breast screening assessment, ensure that all breast screening readers fully understand the assessment guidelines and diminish the possible occurrence of potential errors.
